Island Adventures

Once on the islands, there’s a chance you may witness the sea turtles making their way up the beach to lay their eggs.

The Mackerel Islands and Onslow are hot spots for turtle breeding and turtles are highly active in the area during turtle nesting season, between October to March. Female turtles usually nest at night, crawling up the beach between two to three hours either side of the evening high tide.

Please adhere to the suggested guidelines to protect turtles during the nesting season:

In the waters, be on the lookout for the playful dolphins that frequent the area, and the stingrays and crabs weaving their way among the coral reefs. When night falls, sit back in wonder as the night sky lights up with a sparkling display of silver for a truly unmissable stargazing experience.

The Islands also play host to migratory whales each year - always putting on an amazing display.
