Millstream Chichester National Park

We acknowledge the Yindjibarndi and Ngarluma people as the Traditional Custodians of Millstream Chichester National Park.

Millstream Chichester National Park covers nearly 200,000 hectares around the Fortescue River. The National Park is packed with stunning experiences such as lush flora and fauna with deep gorges and natural pools. Millstream Chichester is the home of the Warlu (the Serpent) and offers some of the best camping opportunities in the Pilbara.

A must-see attraction within the park is the popular swimming spot Python Pool. Several BBQ spots and walking trails are scattered throughout the park.

Pools

Python Pool. A stunning spot for a swim in a cool refreshing rock pool against the backdrop ancient, rugged cliffs. Python Pool is easily accessible by road.

Deep Reach Pool. Located in Millstream and sacred to the Yindjibarndi people. A peaceful place for a tranquil swim. As a sign of respect, please ensure noise is kept to a minimum.

Jirndawurrunha Pool. Swimming is not permitted at Jirndawurrunha Pool or surrounding streams because of this site’s deep cultural significance to the Yinjibarndi people.

Trails

There are five walking trails withing the Millstream area of the Park. Cliff Top Walk (600m, Class 2) is the shortest walk but offers a stunning view of Fortescue River. The Warrungunha Trail (8km, Class 3) takes hikers through woodlands and is dotted with iconic Australia flora. The Red Roo Trail (7.5km) is both a walk and cycle trail which starts at the Millstream Homestead carpark and ends at the Deep Reach Pool carpark.

There are five trails within the Chichester area of the Park. Python Pool is the shortest trail (200m return, Class 3), with the old Chichester Range Camel Trail (8km one way, Class 4) offering insights into how camel and bullock teams used to get around!

Camping

There are 2 major camp sites in Millstream which are Miliyanha & Stargazers. Miliyanha is suitable for all vehicles, is a generator friendly campsite and is available year-round. Stargazers is strictly a non-generator campsite and only seasonally available. Online bookings for these campsites are essential. For more information, visit our Camping page.

How to get to Millstream Chichester

Access to the Millstream Chichester National Park is via a sealed road, approximately 2.5 hours drive from Karratha. Park entry fees apply via a day pass, multi-day options or annual pass.

An unsealed road is also available via the Rio Tinto Access Road (permits available online or at the Tom Price Visitor Centre).
